Why are people so lazy in America these days?

why do people try so hard to take the easy way out of working for a living trying to make money with those silly scams about online surveys and stuff. There is no real guranteed money in that, not like there is when you work for a living and the great feeling of accomplishment you get when you get your pay check. My grandmother said when she was younger and McDonald’s first opened everyone seen that as an oppritunity, now everyone sees working as a basic waste of time. What is society setting our children up for when they grow up?

  1. A good work ethic has to be taught. Somewhere along the line, parents stopped teaching their kids to be responsible and to be proud of a job well done, whatever that job may be.

  2. well some people in america are lazy, others work hard to get whatr they deserve. Not everyone sees working as a basic waste of time, maybe ppl u engage with or others u may see,but people like my parents and b4 wotked their butts off to earn!

  3. It’s not only in America that people have become bone idle, they are the same here in London.they do not seem to want to do anything for themselves at all.The ones who do work hard are treated like dirt by the lazy ones.

Like Hoyt Axton said, “Work your fingers to the bone, what do you get?” Boney Fingers.

P.S. I just like to be able to play under a
different set of rules. You know, ones where
when your Grandma is sick, you can go to the hospital
without fear. You don’t have to go
through the chances of getting fired cause the
boss needs to make some hamburgers.

  5. I agree with the second answer… there’s a need to teach a good work ethic BUT at the same time there is a need for rewards for a good work ethic, and that just doesn’t exist anymore.
The fact is that the scammers are getting rich and the good people are left in the dust working hard and getting shafted thanks to crap like NAFTA and offshoring.
People who don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel can’t get motivated to be hard workers. We can’t even afford health insurance for my wife (I get mine from my workplace).
The government needs to work harder to protect the good citizens instead of the criminals and greedy bastards that are sucking us dry.

  6. I definately “hear what you’re saying” but want to add that… it’s not new and it’s not just America. There have been swindlers, scam artists, and suckers as long as there has been mankind. We just have selective memory: the “old days” were always better. And only the most nobel, most hard-working, most productive of us are remembered very long. And as we grow older, we start to see the worst of ourselves and we all say “it wasn’t so when I was young.” No.. you just didn’t see it when you were young.

Just last week was the 400 year anniversary of Jamestown and I heard on the radio that so many of the first “settlers” were “adventurers” and “gentlemen speculators” that the colony leader had to set down a rule: “he who will not work, will not eat” – and wrote back to England: “Send me 12 good carpenters, gardeners, wood cutters (etc., (sic)) before you send me another 200 like this lot.”

And P.T. Barnum said “a fool and his money are soon parted” or “there’s a fool born every minute” (or said both.) Early America was rife with “snake oil salesmen.”

So it’s been around. (Only P.T. Barnum is remembered well and admired.)

It’s true, too may people scorn “burger flippers” and turn their nose up at working fast-food. But they also seem to have enough workers. Hundreds of thousands are learning valuable lessons all work has for us, no matter how “menial” it seems.

As for me, I’ve got a relatively great job. But I’ve cleaned toilets before and if it came to it I’d clean toilets again.

I do agree: I have little patience for anyone who turns down honest work available to them.

But that sort have always been around.

stop looking for them and start looking for the hard workers. stop comparing yourself to the lazy people as mocking them. its a waste of time people because can make more money else where or they think they are better, some of the reasons ive found- theres different to each person.
