How can a 14 year old make $3400 in a year and a half?

I want to go on a trip to paris and madrid with my school in april 2011,
but we need to turn in $3400 by december 1st, 2010.

I’m most likely going to have to pay for everything myself.
I’m a 14 year old girl, and i don’t have a job.
This summer i want to look around for places that are hiring 14 year olds, but i can’t find very many.

Does anyone know alternative ways to earn money, besides being hired?
(Because i can’t seem to find ANYWHERE that is hiring people under the age of 16. And i won’t turn 16 until AFTER the due date.)

PLEASE… DO NOT tell me to do online surveys and crap, because they’re scams and plus, my dad would never let me do them.

And by the way, we also need to turn in $500 by september 2009, but i’m 99% i’ve got that covered, because my mom offered to pay that portion when i help take care of her one year old when her baby is born in august.
I do get an allowance of $5 – $8 a week, depending on if i have to go to my mom’s for the weekend (which means less opportunities to do chores, which means less money).
My dad refuses to increase my allowance, since i also have a younger sister and brother who get allowances too. :\
Everyone else is saying that to go with the school is way cheaper.
$3400 includes
-professional courier
-round trip to + from europe
-7 night hotel (3-4 stars)
-triple rooms
-entrance to museums, palaces, eiffel tower, etc.
-3 day metro pass (paris)
-3 day metro pass (madrid)
-motor coach
-lifetime membership
-airline fees
-insurance
-passport
-spending money.

  1. Sounds like you need to hit up your parents for a HUGE increase in allowance!!!

I think most places won’t hire you until you’re 16, like you said. So maybe consider working for yourself. This includes doing chores for money (maybe ask your parents if you can earn the money). Also, you can post signs for babysitting or dog walking in your neighborhood. Just make sure you save all your money.

Ask your parents to invest some money for you, probably in a municipal bond that way you get some awesome interest on your money that you don’t have to pay any taxes on.

  4. Babysitting is probably your best bet. Depending on your area, there might be some wealthy people that will pay very well. I am 16, and I am having trouble finding a job. I can’t imagine how hard it would be at 14.

There is no one way to obtain that sum easily. There are online survey sites like Survey spot that really DO work but there is no way you will earn that amount with them alone.

You should keep looking for work but also think of some other interesting ways to make money.

Turn to your family, friends, and neighbors and ask if you can do odd jobs for $5. Mow their lawn, tend their garden, fix something for them, or even cook dinner for them once a week. Babysitting service is a great way to make money I know you are only 14 but if you can prove that you’re responsible you could at least do some work for family/friends.

Not to be stereotypical but since you are still in school, join the pottery, sewing or craft clubs. You get free school supplies to make things that you can then sell for $10 – $20.

Best of luck, our school also offered a similar trip to Quebec. Much cheaper but I still wasn’t able to attend do to the money issues. Re-evaluate if this is really something you want to do and if it is go for it! Friends and family should chip in if they see how much this means to you.

ok im a seventh grader at jacobsen middle school in tehachapi CA.
First talk to the office or your school counseler about getting a work permit. they will walk you through it. next, find someone thats intrested in hiring you. tell them that your a hard worker and that you will be recieving a work permit in a week or two.
when and if you get a job, WORK YOUR BUTT OFF!!!! Even if you don’t like it. My dad owns a carwash here in towne, we bathe in money…so trust me, i know what im talking about. YOUR WELCOME!!!

  7. $3400 seems a bit expensive… a flight to Europe: a couple of hundred dollars, a week in Paris and Madrid another few hundred dollars – I mean if that what it costs to go with the school why bother, go with your family for 1/3 of the cost!

  8. Culver’s minimum hiring age is 14 with a workers permit.

I called many stores because I am 14 looking for a job. This was the response they gave which makes me happy after looking for so long.

Find a local one go online and apply and go in store to apply or call and ask if they are hiring.

What I did was Google a bunch of business near my home and found their numbers using Google maps or their sites and I called and directly asked if they are hiring and what age do they hire at.

Try local grocery stores, pizza parlors, retail stores, fast food restaurants.

  9. Check out http://r.yuwie.com/wojteks/

Its a social networking site similar to facebook except they pay you the longer you spend on your profile.

There is a lot of pop up ads which does get annoying but your browser will block most of them anyway.

    Good luck
