Serious question about ebay/paypal?

My sister and I used to be close but since she gotten older she’s been into drugs and isn’t allowed at my mothers house. Well I got a call from ebay and paypal this week asking for my sister. She doesn’t stay here anymore she stays about 40 minutes away, I don’t have any contact information, she only comes around when she wants something. But she was here on Easter and wanted me to help her create a ebay and paypal account, she said she wanted to do some online surveys and get paid. I do them so I figured she was telling the truth. Well my mothers debit card was missing when she left and we didn’t think anything of it because we thought she had miss placed it. Long story short, my sister went back to wherever she staying..created fake items on ebay sold them transfered them to my disabled grandfathers old paypal account, spent the money, used my mothers ss# and debit card infor for the paypal account, and they are looking at us now..! What can they do about this, I don’t have contact infor for my sister, she doesn’t own anything so can’t find her. They can’t take the money out of my mothers account can they, and info on this matter would be greatly helpful, I know alot about Paypal as I’ve dealth with them for a couple years now but I don’t know what they do in this situation..

  1. Yes they can take the money of your mothers account, as when your sister added the debit card, according to Paypal’s terms of service, that gave them the right to take money out/put money in whenever they ‘need to’ (choose to).

Tell me seriously: WHAT would your sister need an eBay account for if it’s REALLY only about taking online surveys? (she should only want a paypal account in that case). Although online surveys typically send out cheques (ie. they don’t pay you by Paypal)

  2. You need to contact ebay and PayPal and explain exactly what has happened. I would also contact the bank and notify them as well. You may need to contact the attorney general of your state for assistance to clear this up. Good luck.
