I purchase food for just myself. I am a vegan so I don't buy dairy or eggs. Off the top of my head:

Beans: anywhere from 25 cents to $1.35, depending on what kind, if they're organic, and whether they're seasoned.

Bread: I buy a whole-grain bread from Costco...two loaves for $3.95.

Specific Produce: I routinely buy zucchini and yellow squash, both anywhere from 75 cents to $1.69 per pound, depending on where it's purchased, with an average of $1.19 per pound for organic. I also buy a 3lb spring mix from Costco for about $3.95, and a few pounds of grape tomatoes, again from Costco, for about $5.00. I do a lot of frozen produce since I work 3 jobs and can't always get to the store...this way, I always have something on hand. It varies, but usually is 8-16oz for only $1.00, depending on seasonings, preparation (sliced, whole, diced, etc.), and type of ingredients.

So, for example, I just made myself a good amount of stir fry (6-8 meals worth, depending on appetite) for about $5.00...total, not per serving. Imagine feeding 6-8 people for just FIVE DOLLARS! It's way cheaper as a vegan...provided you don't buy all the fancy veggie meats. Even then, there is a non-soy one I buy from Costco, it's just chopped veggies and nuts formed into a patty. 14 for about $10.00.

I live in Utah
I shop at Smith's and Cosco . I hate walmart because it is so crowded and full of idiots. But anyways, They have the best prices on over the counter drugs.
Cosco has the best prices if you want bulk stuff.
And I buy everything else at smiths.
milk is like 2. 80 unless you want organic some is like 3.79 a gallon others like horizon is almost 5 dollars a half gallon! its insane.
Eggs is like 2.00 for a dozen unless you want organic.
Canned beans, depends on the brand but like 1.55.
Bread is like 3 dollars or more.
I don't think its bad here for prices. I think california is way too expensive for groceries and I think Hawaii is the worst. a normal gallon of milk there is amost 6 dollars. Its horrible

I live in NE Ohio. We have a store called Aldi, where you can get basic staples like you mention pretty reasonably. They just lowered prices on their dairy items. Here are some

Gallon of Milk $1.89
Pound of Butter $1.49
Dozen Eggs $.99
8 oz block of Cheddar $1.69
Canned Beans - around $.59
Loaf of regular white bread $.79
Bag of mixed salad $.99
Jar of Speghetti Sauce (its good too!) $.99
Box of Mac and Cheese $.33

I usually get produce on sale at different stores, like right now

Celery $.99 stalk Save a Lot
Tomatos $.99/lb Save a Lot
Mushrooms 8 oz sliced $.99 Giant Eagle
Greens (Kale, Mustard, ect.) $.69/lb - Super K Mart

I am pretty good at buying items I know are the lowest price at certain stores and buying sale items when the sales are good at other stores. And I don't waste gas, I go to the stores when I am in the area not all on the same day or at the same time, unless they are close by each other.

I do also shop at Sam's Club for some things. You can't beat their prices on dog and cat food and they have really good french bread $2.38 for two long skinny loaves. Their spices are priced very good for what you get.
