Entry from: Changsha, China Entry Title: “Portland Ain’t Got Anything Like This” Entry: “I had a 10- 11:40 class, that just flew by. Then home to chill a bit, lunch and chat with Ruth. Got some of the last kitchen corner cleaned, just not put back. Then, thanks to Vince’s inspiring research on bus routes and land marks, I headed down to Feng Li Er Road to catch bus 314 over the river. A new, big step for me. I just missed one, but I’m in no rush here… So a few minutes later, another one showed up. I had change ready, got on, and there was no box to put the money in. A guy politely waves me on and back a bit, so I do, wondering. Then the lady comes up to collect my 2 yuan, which I gladly gave her as I realize it was an air conditioned bus. Before we’re to the bridge a few people get off and I’m tapped on the shoulder to take a just vacated seat. Do I look that old and feeble or are people here under strict orders to be nice to foreigners. I am truly treated quite well here, for the most part. We quickly crossed the river and headed East on Wu Yi Avenue. Vince’s instructions were to stay on the bus until after it turned South of Wu Yi, then back North on Jie Fang Road, so I did. I quickly saw the Walking Street and a McDonald’s, but no Wal-Mart. Vince had said it should be there, just to the East, so I …
