    Yes and yes.

You will not get rich from surveys. I probably make $2-$3 a week. When you sign up for a site you will find that only some surveys pay anything and you must qualify for them. I use these sites.

You can also get free samples. Most are not worth the trouble but I have gotten a few items that are worth a few dollars. I use these sites.

None of these sites will contact you except to invite you to surveys. There is absolutely no cost.

  2. Yes, there are surveys, and free samples, but 99% of them are scams. Think about it, someone thought it was a good idea to attract people to their web site for offering free stuff. Once people have gotten use to an idea or at least believe it to work, what better way then to use it to scam. It is like putting a salt lick out in your back yard all summer attracting deer, then come winter and deer season, you just sit on your back porch and fire. No slogging through the woods, no long drive home.
